European Commission to criminalize nearly all seeds and plants not registered with government

existentialistmumbojumbo:

A new law proposed by the European Commission would make it illegal to “grow, reproduce or trade” any vegetable seeds that have not been “tested, approved and accepted” by a new EU bureaucracy named the “EU Plant Variety Agency.”

It’s called the Plant Reproductive Material Law, and it attempts to put the government in charge of virtually all plants and seeds. Home gardeners who grow their own plants from non-regulated seeds would be considered criminals under this law.

The draft text of the law, which has already been amended several times due to a huge backlash from gardeners, is viewable here.

“This law will immediately stop the professional development of vegetable varieties for home gardeners, organic growers, and small-scale market farmers,” said Ben Gabel, vegetable breeder and director of The Real Seed Catalogue. “Home gardeners have really different needs - for example they grow by hand, not machine, and can’t or don’t want to use such powerful chemical sprays. There’s no way to register the varieties suitable for home use as they don’t meet the strict criteria of the Plant Variety Agency, which is only concerned about approving the sort of seed used by industrial farmers.”

Virtually all plants, vegetable seeds and gardeners to eventually be registered by government

All governments are, of course, infatuated with the idea of registering everybody and everything. Under Title IV of the proposed EU law:

Title IV Registration of varieties in national and Union registers
The varieties, in order to be made available on the market throughout the Union, shall be included in a national register or in the Union register via direct application procedure to the CVPO.

Gardeners must also pay fees to the EU bureaucracy for the registration of their seeds. From the proposed law text:

The competent authorities and the CPVO should charge fees for the processing of
applications, the formal and technical examinations including audits, variety denomination, and the maintenance of the varieties for each year for the duration of
the registration.

While this law may initially only be targeted at commercial gardeners, it sets a precedent to sooner or later go after home gardeners and require them to abide by the same insane regulations.

Thatcher: “No! No! No!” (by ninthwave)

In her honor of her death Margaret Thatcher’s speech that killed her political  career. When she so bravely came out against the EU and the euro.

What ever else you can say about her. You have to admire her stance, a no win stance. When both the so called left and right in the UK wanted to be part of the euro and the EU.

Spain protesters accuse EU of servility to markets

sinidentidades:

Thousands of protesters marched Saturday in Madrid and other cities in Spain against European Union leaders’ handling of the financial crisis, condemning “an EU that belongs to the markets”.

The marches, organised by Spain’s “indignados” protest movement, came after Cyprus announced it would dip into its citizens’ bank accounts to help save the government from a debt default, part of a 10-billion-euro ($13-billion) EU bailout deal.

“We don’t owe anything. We won’t pay anything,” said a banner carried by protesters in the northern city of Valladolid, a rallying cry echoed at the march in Madrid.

“Get out Troika,” protesters chanted in the capital, a reference to the trio of creditors — the EU, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund — that are overseeing eurozone bailouts brought on by the debt crisis.

In Madrid, the protesters marched to Puerta del Sol, a central square that was occupied for several months by the indignados, whose movement was born in May 2011 and inspired protests in other countries.

Their slogans and banners covered a wide array of issues ranging from austerity cuts to corruption scandals to unemployment.

EU freezes approval of GM crops to 2014

sinidentidades:

The European Commission has decided to freeze the approval process for genetically modified food crops through the end of its mandate next year while it works towards an agreement with EU member states.

“The Commission, if it wants, could launch a procedure to authorise the farming of one GM soya and six corn strains… but it won’t do so,” said Frederic Vincent, a spokesman for Health Commissioner Tonio Borg.

“The authorisations for farming are frozen,” he added.

Vincent said the priority of Borg, who only recently took up the post of health commissioner, was to relaunch discussions with member states.

The Commission’s approval of GM crops has poisoned relations with a number of the 27 EU members.

Eight countries — Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Luxembourg and Poland — have adopted provisions that allow them to block the cultivation of GM crops on their territory.

Nigel Farage: Trapped Inside an Economic Prison (Full Version - Ch. I, II & III) (by europarl)

Its repeating here in the US. Watch this to know what is coming to our shores. The policies of the EU are also being implemented here. Then our policies are being implemented there.

What happen Greece is not that faraway from were we are. The cliff is here and we will have riots. We live in a land of surfdome.

We are all slaves to the  Government and it spending and its taxation and regulations. Obama will just make it that much worse. Romney would have done the same thing.

We are all collectively being waterboarded for the sake of goverment and its collective ego and want for control of our lives and our fate and legacy to our kids.

America needs a political party like UKIP(UK Independence party)

America needs a political party like UKIP(UK Independence party), instead of

UK Independence Party
UK Independence Party (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Republican light that the American Libertarian party has turned into. Wish I had the resources for something like that. IT would be similar to their name to, US Independence party, USIP. Start combating and fighting for our right to be independent and not to be raped by international and national groups who would take away our liberties and rights.

Follow the strict economic principles of Austrian Economics. None-interventionest policies. Keep out of others countries policies and military actions. Re-turn the power to the states. Make it like what it was before the 1800s. No central planning or central banks. Get rid-of the crack whores who are in power and make them work at the sweet of their brows instead of the taxes they leverage on us, regardless of what we want.

A Machiavellian Scheme For A United States Of Europe?

n-morgan:

Source: CNBC

Ever wondered why European politicians appear so calm when attending summits in Brussels or G8 meetings despite all the talk of a “Grexit” and economic Armageddon? They could be trying to show their confidence in their own ability to solve the crisis and avoid unnecessary panic. Maybe they really are confident that a solution is just around the corner and simply reflecting this confidence.

Or maybe this crisis was always part of the plan, and without it the great European project can never be finished.

“On 1 January 1999, with the introduction of the euro …an important part of national sovereignty, to wit monetary sovereignty, was passed over to a European institution…The introduction of a common currency is not primarily an economic, but rather a sovereign and thus eminently political act…political union must be our lodestar from now on: it is the logical follow-on from Economic and Monetary Union,” then German foreign minister Joschka Fischer told European Union lawmakers just days after the introduction of the euro in 1999.

Fischer was not alone, with many of the founding members of the euro zone making it clear that the single currency was significant as a stepping stone to political union.

“The single currency is the greatest abandonment of sovereignty since the foundation of the European Community…it is a decision of an essentially political nature. We need this United Europe…we must never forget that the euro is an instrument for this project” said Felipe Gonzalez, then Spanish prime minister.

Even those who opposed the idea and refused to join agreed that the euro had little to do with economics.

“A single currency is about the politics of Europe. It is about a Federal Europe by the back door,” John Major, the former U.K. prime minister, said two years before the euro was born and six months before being routed at the polls by Tony Blair.

Historian Niall Ferguson wrote in this weekend’s Sunday Times that the euro’s founding fathers were well aware that the introduction of the euro would lead us to a crisis very like this one.

The skeptics had warned that the inability of member states to devalue the currency would lead to a competitiveness crisis which would be made worse by aninflexible labor market that would not, for example, allow Spanish workers to move to Germany in order to meet demand. Inappropriate borrowing costs for some member states were also seen as a key problem, fueling boom-and-bust borrowing binges — the same kind that ultimately got nations like Greece into this trouble.

In the first decade of the new century, despite dire warnings of trouble ahead, nearly every euro zone member borrowed more than was allowed under the EU’s stability and growth pact. Supposedly aimed at keeping government borrowing below 3 percent of gross domestic product , the pact was widely ignored, with even France and Germany failing to adhere to its terms. Even if the terms had been kept, they simply made it possible for governments to spend more than they earned by 3 percent, year after year.

This policy kept politicians in power and helped drive a period of economic prosperity that resembled a really good party that no one wanted to leave. When the financial system imploded in the U.S. and then Europe, the party was over and the hangover was bad — really bad.

Not everyone had the same kind of hangover, but collectively things looked pretty awful, with empty bottles everywhere and a number of ashtrays thrown across the floor. Greece, having started drinking before the party even began, woke up in the garden wondering what it had done with its clothes. Germany, having been careful about how much it drank, woke up in bed and started talking very loudly about the evils of alcohol and a need to show restraint.

Machiavelli himself would have been proud of the euro’s founding fathers. They pushed through a policy against considerable opposition aimed at achieving a result that was not about economic union. Given Europe’s inability to get ahead of the debt crisis, it could need someone with Machiavelli’s talent for high politics to achieve the ultimate aim: political union. Maybe German Chancellor Angela Merkel has someone in mind and is confident all will work out as a result.
