A thought on SOPA and IP law.

A quick thought I had. One of the things SOPA would grant. Is the right of the goverment to have a greater power in granting monopoly force on the open market. All with out any court or oversight from the people we elected to office.

IP law regardless of its form, patents, trade marks and copyright. Is just another form of crony capitalism. A grant by the goverment to one entity to have a monopoly on the market.

In turn it limits competition. Just look at the current law suits going on in the tech industry. Apple suing everyone and their uncle. Preventing companies like Samsung from bringing competing products to the market. Products that would encourage Apple to lower their prices and product offering.

Then you have copyright. Art would exist even with out any copyright. Most performers do not make money directly off the copyright of their songs. Most of their income comes from preforming in concerts and personal appearances.

This would be applicable to other creative areas. A author could make money again in other areas in relation to their writing. Like appearances, education value like websites with multi-media rich content that has advertising or paid subscriptions.

Same would go with software. Red Hat who publishes Red Hat Linux is a great example of this. Linux is an open source platform. Were you make no money directly off the software. The money comes from added services. In the case of Red Hat. It is tech support. No ways of distribution, like install DVDs and alike.

You don’t need IP law to make money. In many cases it prevents money creation by preventing competition.

Then you have the goverment them selves that also could directly abuse it. Would not be hell if the goverment decided the wording of any law was copyrighted. Then by posting the wording of that bill online. You would be in violation of the law and open to litigation and jail time.

Another way this could be limiting in speech and rights. What if a interested group like New Corp decided they own the copy right on a generic peace of news. Say the copyright on reporting on the Occupy Wall street movement.

They could use the force of goverment to shut down any news outlet or blogger who reports on that item, or in the case of SOPA, any one who links to New Corps news articles.

The goverment could do this as well. What if they copyright threw of of their allies. Like CNN, the right to report on defense spending. The goverment could encourage CNN to take down any none favorable reporting on that one issue. Again with SOPA you don’t even need a court order to do this. You as a blogger or a competing news agency are automatically Guilty because CNN or the goverment says your guilty. Now your website is being blocked from all viewership in the USA.

Government is force. Anytime you pass more regulation, your playing with fire. You will be burned. Even the corporations who support this law will be burned in the future. What does a goverment based on totalitarian methodology need with corporations once they have absolute control.

This is all I have to say at this point.
