Aren’t anarchists terrorists?

Bryan Caplan:

Aren’t statists terrorists? Well, some of the them are; in fact, the overwhelming majority of non-governmental groups who murder and destroy property for political aims believe that government ought to exist (and that they ought to run it). And just as the existence of such statist terrorists is a poor argument for anarchism, the existence of anarchist terrorists is a poor argument against anarchism. For any idea whatever, there will always be those who advocate advancing it by violence.

It is however true that around the turn of the century, a certain segment of anarchists advocated what they called “propaganda by the deed.” Several heads of state were assassinated by anarchists, along with businessmen, industrialists, stock-brokers, and so on. One of the most famous instances was when the young Alexander Berkman tried to murder the steel industrialist Henry Frick. During this era, the left-anarchists were divided as to the permissibility of terrorism; but of course many strongly opposed it. And individualist anarchists such as Benjamin Tucker almost always saw terrorist activities as both counter-productive and immoral when innocents were injured (as they often were).

The basic argument of the advocates of “propaganda by the deed” was that anarchist terrorism would provoke governments — even avowedly liberal and democratic governments — to resort to increasingly harsh measures to restore order. As governments’ ruthlessness increased, their “true colours” would appear for all to see, leading to more immediate results than mere education and theorising. As E.V. Zenker notes in his Anarchism: A Criticism and History of the Anarchist Theory, a number of Western governments were driven to adopt anti-terrorist laws as a result of anarchist terrorism. (Zenker goes on to note that Great Britain remained true to its liberal heritage by refusing to punish individuals merely for espousing anarchist ideas.) But as one might expect, contrary to the terrorists’ hopes, it was the reputation of anarchism — peaceful and violent alike — which suffered rather than the reputation of the state.

Florida Man Flees Seatbelt Stop on Foot, Cop Runs Him Over and Kills Him

Two DeLand police officers got behind the car as it headed west on Beresford Avenue. Brown did not stop and made a left turn on South Delaware Avenue, a dead-end street that ends near an empty lot. Brown stopped the car and ran from it, as one DeLand patrol car stopped behind Brown’s Toyota Camry. The other patrol car, driven by Officer Harris, drove past on the left of the other stopped patrol car and struck Brown, who was running, with the right front, Montes said.

Harris then ran over Brown, killing him on the spot, Montes said.

At the scene behind some apartment buildings at 901 S. Delaware Ave., tire tracks lead from the paved road into the empty lot for more than a hundred yards, running over bean plants and knocking down a chain link fence. This is where witness Sabrina Waldron said the car stopped on top of Brown.

Waldron said Brown’s car pulled along the woods and stopped.

“There was no need to run him down,” Waldron said. “After the car hit Marlon and landed on him the back end of it was up in the air.”

Des Moines, Iowa: A police officer accused of kicking a man in the head and knocking out his front teeth has been fired.

Delaware County, Pennsylvania: A deputy is facing assault and reckless endangerment charges after allegedly opening fire on his own car as the woman he lent it to attempted to flee. He has been suspended from his job pending the results of criminal and internal investigations.

beatyourselfup:

Price loaned his 2011 Dodge Nitro to a Delaware County woman and was expecting her to return it by 7 p.m. Tuesday.

When the woman, a 24-year-old from Collingdale, did not show up, Price “obtained a ride from Delaware County to Allentown to retrieve his vehicle,” which he found in the 700 block of South Fifth Street shortly after 10 p.m.

“The defendant approached the (vehicle) while holding his Ruger pistol and demanded all occupants exit the vehicle,” Detective Thomas Anderson, wrote in the affidavit.

Identified as Price’s girlfriend in the affidavit, the Collingdale woman was with two other people in the car when, she told police, Price appeared “out of nowhere” and allegedly yelled, “Get the (expletive) out of the car!”

She said Price pushed his pistol through an open passenger side window, pointed it at her and threatened to shoot her if she did not exit the vehicle.

The woman told police Price fired three shots from behind the car as she attempted to drive away.

Gunfire and moments of fear as a rural Oregon school tests their "readiness"

beatyourselfup:

HALFWAY — Two masked men wearing hoodies and wielding handguns burst into the Pine Eagle Charter School in this tiny rural community on Friday. Students were at home for an in-service day, so the gunmen headed into a meeting room full of teachers and opened fire.

Someone figured out in a few seconds that the bullets were not drawing blood because they were blanks and the exercise was a drill, designed to test Pine Eagle’s preparation for an assault by “active shooters” who were, in reality, members of the school staff. But those few seconds left everybody plenty scared.

The world we live in: Scare children and teachers half to death to see if they can handle a mass murdering fuckhead on the loose in their school, rather than just equip them with the tools they need to defend themselves.

Unbelievable.

Infowars: Watford Mayor: Bilderberg Protesters “Can And Do Cause Violence And Disturbance”

infowarsdotcom:

Jurriaan Maessen
Infowars.Com
May 11, 2013

The mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, told the local newspapertoday she fears violent protests at the upcoming Bilderberg conference. The mayor would be wise to consider signing up for a crash-course on how not to escalate an event before it even takes place.

“I have my concerns about it because it does attract people who can and do cause violence and disturbance.”, Thornhill told the Watford Observer. Although she added she is “confident the police will be able to minimise that”, she appears to suck up to the global elite by stating “it is very good the Grove has been deemed a prestigious enough venue.”

Dorothy Thornhill is the political leader of Watford Borough Council and the borough’s first Directly Elected Mayor.

The Watford observer ran another article today, noting that close to a thousand protesters may be present around the cordoned-off area of the Grove Hotel and its immediate surroundings.

“Most of The Grove’s grounds will be closed to the public while the conference takes place and Hertfordshire Constabulary will be given the job of keeping the crowds out.”, the report reads.

The local newspaper insists on describing the expected demonstrators as “crowds” of conspiracy theorists, ready to run over the gates and storm the Grove Hotel. It doesn’t mention that the annual confab usually attracts peaceful but critical protesters. Talking about last year’s conference in the US, the reporter for the Watford observer implicitly expresses doubt that the protesters will abide by the law:

“In the main the crowds (at Bilderberg 2012) were kept confined to the lawns outside the hotel, and although the barriers were strictly enforced, there were no reported arrests. Whether Watford can expect the same crowds is yet to be seen.”

These passive-aggressive words by an uninformed local reporter, and the foolish statements made by mayor Thornhill, seem to echo some feeling of discomfort on the part of the local establishment at the prospect of their area filling up with critical people trying to make sure the media blackout on Bilderberg does not endure. This feeling of discomfort is understandable. But, like any vague disturbance of the mind, it would be wise for them to reach for the roots of their discomfort. It is not the protesters that should be their main concern. It is the fact that the world’s political, financial and military elite meet in absolute secrecy, including their own elected officials.

Jurriaan Maessen’s article first appeared at ExplosiveReports.Com.
