Political Crazyness

carpelibertatem:

“I am sending this Congress a plan that you should pass right away. It’s called the American Jobs Act. There should be nothing controversial about this piece of legislation. Everything in here is the kind of proposal that’s been supported by both Democrats and Republicans — including many who sit here tonight. And everything in this bill will be paid for. Everything.” — President Barack Obama, 9/8/11

France's richest say: Tax us more

carpelibertatem:

Following in the footsteps of Warren Buffett, a number of France’s richest citizens are begging to be taxed at higher rates to help cover their government deficits.

Every time I hear this plea, I have the same questions. Why do those making this argument not simply donate whatever excess amounts they feel would be beneficial directly to their government and recruit others they perceive as rich to do the same? (The US even has a website for it.) Why do those making this argument insist that their government increase taxes (involuntary) on all the “rich” (subjective, arbitrarily defined by government)?

I believe that raising the tax burden on the greatest innovators and largest job creators in a nation only serves to hamper innovation and reduce job creation, so I think this idea, “fair” as it may sound, is a counterproductive and foolish one. But I’m even more offended by the fact that these cries are for governments to use force to collect these so-called contributions not just from these individuals but an entire population whether the others ask for it or not.

If it is such a good idea, I’d think it would be easy to make a case and convince most so-defined rich people to voluntarily donate these additional amounts to their governments rather being forced to surrender the funds. The media clearly loves to offer the soapboxes. Why not start a campaign for donations today? Could it be that there is greater personal profit in voicing this wealth redistribution plan and being perceived as a hero among those who agree with you than their would be in “investing” in crumbling empires?

Petition to Redistribute GPA Scores

Uploaded by oliverdrcy on Apr 14, 2011

Many students believe that it is moral to confiscate money from hard-working Americans and entrepreneurs and give it to those who didn’t earn it, yet don’t support the same philosophy when it is applied to their GPA scores.
